It all started with a chance encounter at a high-speed railway station. I met Rafa and Isaac, two customers from Spain, who were looking to exchange their Spanish currency for RMB. They didn’t realize that we don’t offer currency exchange services at the station. We had just finished dropping off another customer and, out of curiosity and a desire to help, we approached them. What began as a simple gesture turned into the first step in building a relationship founded on trust.
During this unexpected meeting, we exchanged pleasantries, and the customers displayed great enthusiasm and trust. I invited them to visit my factory, where I learned that they were developing a new sports product—ice pack pants. As you read about this, imagine the journey of how the ice packs and pants came together.
Their vision was to create muscle-fatigue-relieving, aesthetically pleasing sports shorts designed for top soccer players around the world. These shorts would be suitable for both training sessions and matches. In our sample room, we discussed every detail, including fabrics, ice packs, breathability, and heat transfer. We began working on the initial samples.
Our design concept featured ice packs embedded in every part of the shorts. The goal was clear: to soothe muscles, promote quick recovery, and protect the athlete. Unfortunately, the first sample didn’t meet our expectations. We used 3mm neoprene to keep the ice packs in place, but we overlooked the fact that neoprene is thick and not breathable. This made the sample less effective than anticipated.
When the customer visited our factory for the second time to review the sample quality and its deviation from the ideal, they did not express frustration. Instead, they remained hopeful and believed in our ability to deliver. This reassurance greatly encouraged us. We discussed sample improvements in various settings— the sample room, factory, on the road, and even over dinner. We discovered a new, cooler fabric—four-way stretch nylon—and planned the ice pack sizes to ensure a perfect fit.
We continued refining the design, getting closer to our ideal with each iteration. We tested numerous fabrics and designs, produced over ten samples, and invested significant time and effort. Our customers, who traveled more than 20 hours by plane to review the samples, were attentive and responsible. Despite their exhaustion, they were motivated by our commitment, and their positive feedback, including phrases like “Good job,” provided us with strong encouragement and confidence.
Our team—including the general manager, business manager, designers, and production department—worked tirelessly to perfect the product.
On July 24, 2024, we had a final meeting, spending over three hours negotiating pricing, packaging, product details, and various other aspects. We successfully solidified our partnership and developed our newest product. Even now, we continue working on samples, and this remains a very strong and promising collaboration!
