Stretch the Gasket
New neck gaskets are often very tight. You can gently stretch them using items like a large coffee can or a mixing bowl. Leave the gasket stretched overnight or for a day or two. This usually helps loosen it while maintaining its seal.
Carefully Trim the Gasket
If stretching doesn't solve the issue, you can carefully trim the neck gasket. Most gaskets have rings or lines that act as guides to ensure an even cut. Trim one ring at a time and test the fit—it's always better to cut gradually since trimming cannot be undone.
Use Talcum Powder for Lubrication
Applying talcum powder to the gasket can make it easier to slide on and reduce friction around the neck, improving overall comfort.
Adapt to a New Dry Suit
Wearing a new dry suit might feel a bit tight initially. If you're certain the tightness isn't hazardous, try wearing it at home for short periods to get used to the pressure. However, if you experience dizziness or difficulty breathing, the gasket is too tight and needs further adjustment.
How Waterproof & Breathable Fabrics Work
Waterproof and breathable fabrics are unique in that they are porous, blocking out the elements while allowing water to escape from underneath. Regular washing will keep your gear clean.
Proper Drying After Use
After each use, air dry inside and out. In some cases, there is not enough time to dry completely between uses. This situation may result in a shorter service life.
Importance of Regular Cleaning
Breathable fabrics are porous and can collect dirt, skin oils, and other environmental substances. Regular cleaning of your wetsuit is a key factor in extending its service life.
Recommended Cleaning Frequency
Depending on the number of days of use, cleaning is recommended annually, every two years, or every three years.
Special Care for Saltwater Exposure
Special care is required when exposed to salt water or salty air: it must be thoroughly rinsed with water and dried after each use.
